PocketTweets on a Real iPhone
The iPhone: I was looking forward to June of 2007 for a very, very long time. While I was waiting, the closest I managed to get to an iPhone was at a party, where an Apple employee let me mess around with Google Maps (all while he was still holding the device). Those 10 seconds were enough to assure me further that I wouldn't be disappointed by my $600 purchase. After scrambling around Denver on launch day, I acquired the dream device and immediately activated it. However, one of my favorite "Web 2.0" apps, like most Web 2.0 apps, was a pain to use on the iPhone's smallish screen. The site was
Twitter, and the presence of a Twitter API sparked the interest in me to co-create my first streamlined iPhone application. I recruited Justin Williams of
SecondGear to build the backend, and the UI came only a few days later. We called the app
PocketTweets, and it arrived on July 10th with the approval of many an iPhone-wielding Twitterer.
"The interface is clean and intuitive, and we especially like the OSX-like icons along the bottom row of the screen."
"One, it’s absolutely gorgeous. It really nails the unique and slick iPhone-styled interface. Two, it works. It works really well. Nice pop-up form box with Ajaxy goodness.
Congrats to to Second Gear and The Pixel Implosion for great work. This has a permanent bookmark on my iPhone."
